Obituary of Jean Watkins Barnes

Services for Jean Watkins Barnes will be 11:00 am, Saturday, July 9th, 2016, at Calvary Baptist Church, Frankfort, with her granddaughter, Tracy Barnes Huelsman, eulogizing her life, and Reverend William Hartung presiding. Burial will follow at Frankfort Cemetery. Family and friends are also invited to visit and celebrate her life at Rogers Funeral Home, Frankfort, Friday, from 2:00pm until 7:00pm, with an additional hour of visitation on Saturday prior to the service at 10:00am. Jean was born on Lebanon Road, in Bald Knob, on November 30th, 1930, to Arnett Watkins and Iva Rodgers Watkins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth Coleman Barnes; her siblings, Dorothy Watkins Baugh, Oakley Keith Watkins, Ralph Dale Watkins, and Audra Watkins Renfro; and her son, Michael D. Barnes. She is survived by her granddaughters, Genna Ann Barnes Cook, Lexington, and Tracy Barnes Huelsman (Chris), Louisville; her great-grandchildren, Shelby Marie Huelsman and Logan Marshall Huelsman; Donald Jay Sudduth, step-grandson, Frankfort, and his children, Nicholas Carter Sudduth and Lauren Kate Sudduth. She attended Bald Knob School, worked for many years at Rhorer’s Card and Book Shop and also at Farmer’s Bank. She was a long-time member of Thornhill Baptist Church and most recently, a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She taught the Fidelis Sunday School class at Thornhill for many years and was actively involved in her church community. She was also a founding member of the Lebanon Community Cemetery Board which manages the final resting place of more than six generations of her family. Jean was a devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. She lived her life with a servant’s heart and found joy and comfort in service to others. She passed away peacefully on July 4th, 2016, at Baptist Health Louisville. Pallbearers will be David Hartung, Chris Huelsman, Jeff Duncan, Jay Sudduth, Tony Cook, and Jason Rodgers. Honorary Pallbearers are all ladies of Thornhill Baptist and Calvary Baptist Fidelis Classes. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Lebanon Community Cemetery, PO BOX 5282, Frankfort, KY 40602.
