John Horace Word, 90, passed away on Friday, December 15, 2017.

Born in Augusta, Kentucky on March 7, 1927, he was the son of Carroll E. and Gertrude Smith Word. A graduate of the University of Kentucky School of Engineering, Mr. Word went on to work in the Civil Engineering Bridge Office for the Ky. Dept. of Transportation and had also lived in Lexington, KY, Mobile, AL, and Kissimmee, FL. He was a member of the Elks Club, Ky. Society of Professional Engineers, and the St. Paul United Methodist Church and enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing, wood turning, boating, gardening, and spending time with his grandkids.

Mr. Word is survived by a daughter, Pamela Word Yagel; four sons, Richard, Bradley, James, and Robert Word; a brother, Gary Word; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Word; two brothers, "C.E." Carroll Emerson Word and James Word; as well as his wife Carol Melton Word and his first wife Connie Bradley Word.

Services will be held at Hope Community Church at 4:00 pm Sunday with visitation preceding at 2:00 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Rogers Funeral Home.

Contributions in Mr. Word's memory are suggested to Bluegrass Care Navigators (Hospice) or Taylor Manor Nursing Home.
