Valerie “Dusty” Adams Nelson, 76, passed away on March 17, 2026. Valerie was born in Camden, New Jersey to Ralph and Norma McKee Adams on April 20, 1949. Married to the love of her life, Harry "Butch" Nelson for 48 years, she was an active member of The Salvation Army, serving as Corps SGT Major and playing in the band. She worked for the State of Kentucky in Child Protective Services and Disability Services, and after retiring from the state she became a social worker for The Salvation Army. She taught Sunday School for The Salvation Army and served on the board of Habitat for Humanity and United Way. Valerie enjoyed being active, and was a member of the Juniper Hills Golf Ladies. In her younger years she was active in various softball and bowling leagues and later in life she participated in YMCA senior volleyball. Valerie was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Butch. She is survived by her sister Amy Tyler (Timothy); brother Robert John Adams, Sr. (Mary Ann); nieces Corene, Erin, Molly, Dawn Marie, and Diana; nephews Andy, Jon, and Robert, Jr.; and several great-nieces and nephews. A service in celebration of her life will be held at The Salvation Army on Sunday, March 22nd at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to The Salvation Army.
