Obituary of Jack Phipps

Please share a memory of Jack to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jack Thomas Phipps, husband of Mae Belle Barnett Phipps, passed away on May 22, 2025 at the age of 86. Jack was born in Frankfort on November 4, 1938 and was a 1956 graduate of Frankfort High School. He attended the Allen Military Academy in Texas until 1957, and later became a pressman at Rand McNally. An avid trapshooter, he founded the Franklin County Gun Club with several friends in the early 1960s and was a member of various gun clubs around the state. He traveled all over the United States to attend trapshooting competitions and won several awards, was named to the Kentucky All-State Men’s Team numerous times, made the Amateur Trapshooting Association’s Veteran All-America Team, and was inducted into the Kentucky Trapshooting Hall of Fame. When not trapshooting, he enjoyed boating and fishing on the Kentucky River, having had a boat on the river since he was 11 years old, and occasionally participated in boat racing with his very speedy fishing boat. He was a member of First Christian Church. Jack always loved being able to spend time with his family. He is survived by his wife Mae Belle; son Jack Wayne Phipps (Gwen); daughter Sarah Phipps Gowins; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Prather Phipps and Sara Louise Patrick Phipps; his sister, Sarah Lee Zwicker; and his brother, Frank Patrick Phipps. A service in celebration of Jack’s life will be held at Rogers Funeral Home at 1:00 pm Tuesday, May 27th with Rev. Dr. Bill Kincaid and Rev. Steven T. Pace presiding. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in the Frankfort Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren: Chris Phipps, Kara Keeton, Ryan Gowins, Rachel Gowins, Eric Welch, and Nick Keeton. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
