Obituary of Donnie Palmer

Donald James "Donnie" Palmer, lovingly known as Donnie or simply Don, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2025, surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the unmistakable sound of a wrench turning. Born on June 20, 1943, in Dearborn County, Indiana, Don spent his formative years in Lawrenceburg, KY, where he developed a strong work ethic, a passion for mechanics, and a heart full of love. A true mechanic at heart, Don could fix just about anything. Whether it was under the hood of a car, at the kitchen table with a deck of cards, or around the garage collecting tools and parts, he lived life with a tireless spirit and can-do attitude. His love for collecting cars, tools, and the odd hard-to-find part was more than a hobby-it was part of who he was. Every bolt, every nut, every tool and every car had a story, and Don remembered them all. Donnie also had a playful side. He loved gambling, whether at the casino or a friendly game of cards with loved ones. He played with charm, a twinkle in his eye, and usually, a winning hand. But beyond the grease-stained hands and the laughter around the card table, Donnie was first and foremost a family man. A devoted husband, a loving father, a proud papaw, the best Uncle Donnie, and a cherished brother, he built a life centered on care, loyalty, hard work and unwavering support. Donald James Palmer leaves behind a lifetime of love, and maybe even a little bit of grease. He taught us to work hard, how to love deeply, and how to find joy in the simple things. A graveside service will be held at the Gibson Cemetery in Bright, Indiana at 2:00 pm Wednesday, August 6th. Rest Easy, Dad, Donnie, Don, Papaw, and Uncle Donnie. We’ll miss you more than you’ll ever know.
