Obituary for George Spencer Jones Sunrise: August 7, 1959 ~ Sunset: August 7, 2025 With deep sorrow and abiding faith in God’s will, the Jones family announces the passing of our beloved father, son, Pop-Pop, brother, and friend, George Jones, who transitioned peacefully on August 7th at the age of 66, surrounded by loved ones. George was born to the late Samuel and Martha Jones on August 7, 1959, in Frankfort, Kentucky. He grew up in a loving household grounded in faith, family, and community. From an early age, he brought joy and laughter to all who knew him, and he never neglected to lend a helping hand. George was a proud graduate of Frankfort High School, and later pursued a career in automotive manufacturing, where he was known for his dedication, dependability, and kind spirit. Whether working with his hands, his heart, or his words, George touched the lives of many and was a pillar within his family and the community. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church for many years. He loved deeply, gave freely, and stood proudly in his truth. He carried those values into adulthood, living a life of quiet strength, fierce love, and unwavering commitment—especially to his children. George was a devoted father to two children whom he loved dearly. He made countless sacrifices to ensure that they were safe, supported, and surrounded by love. To his children, he was not only a father but also a protector, teacher, and best friend. He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Martha Jones; brothers, Dallas Grant, Harold, and Arthur E. Jones, Sr.; and sisters, Mildred J. Chisley and Mary Washington, all of Frankfort, KY. He leaves to cherish his memory: a daughter, Eboni Thompson (Jason) and son, Hunter Blackford (Becca) of Frankfort, KY; one granddaughter with his namesake, Spencer Thompson. He is also survived by sisters, Maxine J. Johnson, Dayton, OH, Rita A. Harvey (Herman), Lawrenceburg, KY, Pamela K. Jones, Frankfort, KY and Sarah (Jackie) Jones, Des Moines, IA; brothers, Samuel H. Jones (Celestine), Frankfort, KY, Robert S. Jones (Anita) and Joseph D. Jones (Diana) of Louisville, KY, Carl A. Jones, Detroit, MI, and Ethan A. Jones, San Antonio, TX. George also has several nieces, nephews, and cousins he loved dearly. His presence will be forever missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. A Homegoing Celebration will be held on Friday, August 22nd, 2025 at First Baptist Church, located at 100 Clinton Street, Frankfort KY, with Bishop Tiangello Hill officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00am-12:00pm, with service to immediately follow. Burial will take place at Greenhill Cemetery in Frankfort. The family extends deep gratitude for the prayers, love, and support shown during this time. Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice in knowing that George is at peace and resting in the arms of the Lord.
