Obituary of Bernard Salmons
Please share a memory of Bernard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bernard Salmons, 88, husband of Sharlene Brooks Salmons, passed away on November 14, 2025.
Bernard was born in Kenova, West Virginia on May 6, 1937. He was the son of Elba Gorman Salmons and Ethel Elizabeth Marcum Salmons, and is survived by his daughters Diana C. DeFrank and Deborah S. McCarter, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Janice Taylor and brother Wendell Salmons.
A graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and Northwestern University, he worked as an aeronautical engineer under contracts with Rockwell International, Lockheed Martin, McDonnell Douglas, Goodyear, and Gulfstream. He loved airplanes and enjoyed making flight plans to places he wanted to go as much as he enjoyed flying them. At 65 years old, he purchased a Piper airplane and earned his pilot's license.
Bernard was a member of the Shayreeth Yisreal synagogue until it ended and visited Ohavay Zion when Rabbi Moske Schmolkin was the Rabbi there.
A graveside service will be held in the chapel at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Monday, November 24th at 12:00 pm. Pallbearers will be George Brooks, Allan Ferguson, and Don McCarter. Honorary bearers will be Mike Miller, Barry Nixson, and John Michael Neu.
