Obituary of Dorothy Wilson
Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy Meador Wilson was born on March 9, 1933, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, to Sarah and AG (Adrian Gilmore) Meador and graduated from Bowling Green High School. She built a beautiful life centered on family, faith, and the natural world.
She and JW, her beloved husband, moved from Bowling Green and spent their early years in Cloverdale and Indian Hills in Frankfort. They found their forever home in the 70s in the Forks of Elkhorn, bordered by the Elkhorn Creek. There, she was most at peace - walking the land, gardening, removing invasive species, collecting rocks, and delighting in the beauty of spring ephemerals. Nature was not just something she admired, it was something she actively cared for and protected.
She lived a life of service and engagement, participating in and charter member of the Capital City Garden Club, serving on the cemetery board, and as a judge of the National Council of Flower Show Judges. She was also active in the Daughters of the American Revolution and Homemakers Club, where she served as President for both. In her life long commitment to learning and movement, she enjoyed YMCA aqua aerobics, Silver Sneakers, and traveling the world.
Dorothy’s Christian faith was a constant and visible thread throughout her life. She served faithfully as WMU director, Sunday School teacher, hospitality committee member, building committee member, and floral designer at Memorial Baptist Church over her 50+ years as a member. Later, she was a devoted member of Buck Run Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Adrian and Robert Meador; her sister, Gwynn Meador Griffin; her husband, J.W. Wilson; and her son, Charlie Wilson.
She is survived by her son, Greg Wilson; her granddaughters, Andrea Wilson Mueller (Michael), Whitney Wilson, Sarah Cline (Adam), Cayce Wilson, Mary Lyons, and Ella Wilson; her great-grandchildren, Isaak, Jewell, Vance, Charley, Zadie, Zeke, Sawyier and Bridger; and one great-great-grandson, Kenton.
She passed on Sunday, Jan 4, 2026, at Central Baptist.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 6th from 3-6pm at Rogers Funeral Home. The service will be Wednesday, January 7th at 12:30pm at Buck Run Baptist Church, with burial following at Frankfort Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s name to the Paul Sawyier Public Library, Buck Run Baptist Church, Kentucky Educational Television (KET), or the Bluegrass Land Conservancy.
