Obituary of Bob Jaynes
Please share a memory of Bob to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bob shed this mortal coil on May 10th, 2026, following a short illness. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on January 7th, 1948, to Dorothy Belle and John Lewis Jaynes. He was preceded in death by both his parents and his cousins Paul and Eric Frey. Bob was employed by IBM and later by Kentucky state government, where he specialized in computer programming and annoying his supervisors.
In his free time, Bob was active in the community and across the Commonwealth. He was a long-standing member of the Central Kentucky Landlord Association and a founding member of the Kentucky Concealed Carry Coalition (KC3). He made regular philanthropic contributions to a number of youth sports teams, local charities, and state and national organizations.
A true patriot through and through, he firmly believed in the protection of Second Amendment rights, along with individual liberty, personal autonomy, and minimal government intervention. The United States Constitution was Bob's rule book, and he fought tirelessly to protect and preserve it for all.
When Bob wasn't busy defending the rule of law, he could often be found at Keeneland, cheering on his beloved UK Wildcats, or offering his support to one of the local high school volleyball teams. He was a fixture at Pizza Inn, Frisch's, and Overtime Sports Bar & Grill where the employees and other regulars became his friends, and where he was always treated like family. Even though he could be a curmudgeon at times, his offbeat sense of humor, kindness, and generosity secured his place as a much loved member of the Frankfort community.
Bob is survived by a whole host of loving cousins (Brad, Brenda, Linda L., Linda J., Lisa, & Lori) and other extended family along with special friends Bruce Rankin, Charles Riggs, Don Lane, and Laurel Dailey.
At a later date, Bob's final wish for the kind of epic sendoff only he could envision will take place at an undisclosed location in the presence of his family and invited friends. (Let's just say he'll go out with a BOOM!)
Please help us honor him by gathering together to swap stories while enjoying drinks and light refreshments at Rogers Funeral Home on Thursday, May 21st from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
Donations to the Franklin County Humane Society are suggested in lieu of flowers.
