Obituary of Stephen Ray Travis

Stephen “Steve” Travis died peacefully on January 10, 2017 due to complications following heart transplant surgery. He was 37. Steve was born on June 13, 1979 in Louisville, KY to his parents, Jan Travis and Kathy Day. He graduated from Spencer County High School in 1997 and received his Bachelor of Arts in Telecommunications from the University of Kentucky in 2003. He married Stacy Hopkins Travis in June 2005 and they made Frankfort their home. Steve began his career with VMS in Louisville in 2003, working as a Transcription Supervisor. In 2012, he continued in his career with the Commonwealth of Kentucky Department for Public Health as a Procedure Development Coordinator. Steve was active with the American Heart Association and Donate Life America, raising funds and awareness for heart disease and organ donation. His interests included cooking and creating new heart healthy recipes for his friends and family, traveling to road races, and cheering on UK basketball. He enjoyed playing video games and reading comics with his daughter. Steve treasured each day he had on earth as a gift. Steve is survived by his wife, Stacy Hopkins Travis; his daughter, Tova Travis; his mother, Kathy Day; his brother, Bryan (Rachel) Travis; his niece and nephew; and the rest of his family and friends. Steve is preceded in death by his father, Jan Travis; and grandparents, Cecil and Noreen Day, Ray Travis and Minnie (Whitaker) Miller. Visitation will be Sunday, January 15 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Rogers Funeral Home in Frankfort, KY. The funeral service will be on Monday, January 16 at 10:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Steve’s life.
