Obituary of Ed Powe
Please share a memory of Ed to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Arrangements have been updated for Ed Powe, who passed away in his home on Thursday, July 27th, with his loving daughter Kristie by his side.
Services will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church on Saturday, August 26th. The church will open for seating at 10:00 am, with a memorial ceremony at 11:00 am, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 pm. A repast will immediately follow in the Parish Life Center.
An interment ceremony with military honors will be held at Camp Nelson National Cemetery at 11:00 am Monday, August 28th.
Born January 10, 1945, to the late Shellie L. Powe and Lucinda Mae (Clark) Powe. Ed was preceded in death by his wife Janice Marie Powe.
To those that knew him, Ed was a trailblazer who not only inspired change but sought to bring it about. Though his achievements were many, his most treasured accomplishment was engaging the residents of Frankfort and Franklin County in conversations about race and race related issues. He encouraged everyone in the community to engage in these open, honest, face-to-face conversations to find common ground from which to build and to bond.
Ed leaves to cherish his memory his only child Kristie Powe, his sister Myra Garrett, his brother Gary Powe, nephews James B. Garrett and Drake Powe (Rebecca), niece Lynetta Patterson (Patrick), and a host of cousins and close friends.
Memorial contributions in Ed's honor are suggested to Focus on Race Relations (FORR).
