My heart pours out for Mr. Gregg's family. I remember my time as a band kid on that blacktop in Cynthiana. How much his words would impact my life. Knowing that when I was there I could be anything I wanted to be as long as I was always at least 5 minutes early because that was being on time. The mornings before competition running through the program. I will hold it in my heart forever. Will miss you Mr. Gregg!

I had spent the morning working outside and being as it’s pretty hot down here in Texas, I had come in to take a shower and a nap. A couple of hours later I woke up to a thunder clap, rolled over to look at my phone to see what time it was, and read what I had been dreading reading for a long time. My sister had left a text message asking if I knew Bob Gregg had passed away back in December. I replied simply that “he was my mentor”.
When I say he was my mentor, it wasn’t for school, it wasn’t for music, it was for life. I have a reverence for Bob that I cannot describe well in words. He was a teacher but again not just for music, he taught me how a man should act, how a father should act, and what to strive for as a good human being.
I watched Todd’s eulogy and I wish I had been there. It let me know that, the way I feel, is the way thousands of people feel that had the privilege of knowing him. He was like a father to me in many ways and he was there for me in many hard times. His family, Laura and the girls, always treated me as a son and brother and I honestly always felt that way around them. I cannot convey the comfort that brought me. I am profoundly sorry that I was not around at the time of his passing and sincerely hope that his family are doing well, I love you all.
I am happy in knowing that I did have the opportunity to see him one last time at the county fair some years ago, if for nothing else, just for him to see that I did not falter, I tried to do well as a man, and that I have a family of my own now. Laura, I want you and the girls to know that he was the single greatest man I have ever met and that I will miss him very much.

Mr Gregg had an enormous influnece on my life. I marvel to this day at the variety of music that he introduced us to in our little town of Cythinana... Prelude and Rhondo, Caccia and Chorale, La Travitata, and numberous Bach Chorales. I often play some of those songs in a mix with Raidohead and Rush..
But really, Mr. Gregg showed me just how you worked if you really loved what you did. With enthusiasm and thoughtfullness, it can be quite contagious. I know becuase he persuaded 50-100 kids to perform like superstars every year I was in high school band.
Thank you Mr. Gregg... Those of us that circled in your orbit gained so much even if it was only for four short years.

One of the greatest men I have had the honor of knowing. A man who raised 3 wonderful women. The last time I saw him he leaned up winked and said I love ya girlly!! I have lots of memories like a lot of others but this one I will hold close to my heart for always. He will continue to direct just from way above now. Rest Mr. Gregg in peaceful music.

Bob and I had breakfast one year in Louisville at the KMEA conference……and I don’t think we talked about band one time for the better part of an hour. It was family, kids, grandkids, and life in general. We need more Bob Greggs in this world.

My most sincere condolences to Laura and the family. Bob was one of the nicest men I’ve ever met. I’ll never forget how he made me feel as if I was the only person in the world while I was around him, albeit only a handful of times in our world of band. What a treasure he was.
I am proud to have known him, watched his perfectly splendid bands, and to call him friend.
God’s blessings to you all.
