Hank and Ann let me ride to Florida with them in 1991 as they were going to visit son Chuck and I was getting to visit a friend on our spring break week. I think it was my freshman year of high school. The twins were also in Florida for spring break and they rode back home with us. I’ll never forget the moment we had stopped to get gas and someone pulled off without removing their gas hose, it pulled out of the pump and gas was spraying all over the place! I don’t remember all of the conversation we had on the trip but I’m sure I learned plenty ;-)
I can contribute much of the success of my career to the entire Hancock family, especially Hank for helping me become developed at a very early age by attending the KAPHCC apprenticeship program he started in Louisville and later helping me network with other successful professionals through the association. Also I have to give much credit to Pat and Susan Hancock for helping springboard my career, I wouldn’t be involved in the plumbing trade if I wasn’t as close to the Hancock family as I am.
Most recently, I would love to see Hank at church because he would always go out of his way to speak with me and catch ourselves up on both families. I feel like I’m as close to being family with the Hancock’s as I could be without being blood related. I will miss Hank deeply.l, but will continue to give thanks for having known him closely!

I have so many memories of Mr. Hancock and the Hancock family. Some of the strongest are Friday night Steak dinners at their home at what seemed to be almost every Friday night while I was growing up. The meal was always the same, salad, baked potatoes and a huge thick steak Hank grilled. He has the best steak sauce recipe too!
My sister Casey, and “the twins” Catherine and Kimberly, would play chase, hide & seek and a clues type of scavenger hunt game while we waited to get to eat dinner which was served usually at 11:00pm when all of our parents who were casually cooking, cocktailing, smoking and chatting finally fed us. We never minded as we had so much fun running around the block and alley loving getting to stay up way after our bedtimes. One night while running around I tripped on a hollow pipe in their yard and scraped all the skin off my shin. I have a scar there that truly reminds me of the good ole days!
Mr. Hancock would often drive us to school at Good Shepherd School when it was too cold to walk.
He and his family took our family in along with their neighbors The Judy’s when our family was displaced by the flood.
I also used Mr. Hancock as the topic of one of my essays I submitted for the Junior Miss Pageant. The request was for someone that you respect, admire and influenced your life. I remember interviewing him. He was always kind and gracious with his time.
And lastly I have fond memories of spending lots of time at the Hancocks River Camp and on their pontoon boat. The Hancocks were like family to our family as well as many others. Mr. Hancock has a great influence on our community and our family. He was a true and long time friend to my father Gilmore Dutton. They went to school together at Good Shepherd, played basketball, hunted, played cards, worked, and spent quality time together. I will miss Mr. Hancock and am happy to know he is with my Dad now continuing their relationship.
