Obituary of Irene Shively

Please share a memory of Irene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Irene L. Haase Shively, of Frankfort, KY. Surrounded by her family, Irene left us to be with our Lord on September 16, 2024. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Born on November 26, 1932 in New York City, NY to the late Alfred William Haase and Mary C. Frame Haase, Irene’s childhood was spent at “The Bolton” where she lived from age 2 to 20. In 1951, Irene graduated from the School of Industrial Art and worked for the American Girl Magazine in the Chrysler Building, an iconic skyscraper located in Manhattan, New York City. She would often recall watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade from the window. In 1953 Irene married Donald (Don) Lloyd Shively. She and Don began their married lives in New York, after the birth of their first child, they moved to South Carolina for Don’s work and went on to have two more children. She was a dedicated mother whether she was volunteering as Den Mother for her boys Donny and Eddy or working over her sewing machine to produce some mom and daughter matching outfits for Lonna. The couple moved to Frankfort in 1974, where Irene began working for JCPenney and regularly created ads for the local newspaper. She created many pieces of art for enjoyment over the years that now hang proudly in her family’s homes. Irene and Don enjoyed their retirement years in sunny California until Irene moved back to Frankfort in 2015 to live with her daughter Lonna and son in law, Brian. Besides her artwork, Irene enjoyed dancing, staying active, puzzles, music and movies. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved making others laugh. For the last year, she enjoyed living at the Dominion Senior Living facility and engaging in all the social events. Irene was a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Frankfort and enjoyed participating in Bible study groups and gathering for socials. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her son Eddy, her first husband Don, second husband Bill Nerness, brother Alfred Haase II, and her grandson Johnathan Fraine. She is survived by her daughter, Lonna Boisseau (Brian); son, Don Shively (Ronda); granddaughter, Jennifer Bondurant (John); great-grandchildren, Brenden Fraine, Morgan Bondurant, Addison Fraine, Ella Fraine, Anna Bondurant and Joci Fraine; brothers Herbie Haase and Bob Haase (Gail); and a special niece Christy Haase; as well as other nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her dear friend, Nancy Boisseau. Though she is no longer with us, her faith and love of Jesus will continue to bless and inspire us. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her. Visitation will be held at Rogers Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 24th from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in the Good Shepherd Catholic Church at 5:30 pm. Memorial contributions are suggested to Bluegrass Care Navigators (Hospice).
