Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John Edward Tomlinson, Jr., 88, died September 28, 2024 at his home in Frankfort. John was born in Lawrenceburg on November 24, 1935 to John Edward Tomlinson Sr., and Lillian B. (Beasley) Tomlinson. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Rose Tincher Tomlinson. A 1953 graduate of Frankfort High School, John attended the University of Kentucky and served in the Kentucky Army National Guard from 1956 to 1962. John worked for Kentucky state government for more than 40 years. Before there was the term “IT specialist,” John was indeed that. His entire career as a government employee was spent in the Department of Information Systems and Technology. He later worked for Laine Software, writing the code to audit Kentucky state tax returns. That code is still used today. For many years, John enjoyed coaching local youth sports. He and Rose attended First Christian Church, where he served on the church board. John was an avid golfer and fisherman, and an excellent cook. He and Rose loved playing golf at Juniper Hill. Together, they fished for many years with their dear friends, Doug and Sharon Harnice, and also with John’s father and their friend Pete Barnes. Later in life, John and Rose spent the winter in Florida with her three sisters and their husbands. He was an avid University of Kentucky football and basketball fan. John enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He and Rose never missed a game or event in which their children or grandchildren participated. As Rose said, he had a happy life. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Tomlinson Liebman and son, John Andrew "Jadie" Tomlinson (Cathy), both of Frankfort, as well as two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Alley and Henrietta Evans. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Jennie Liebman Heiert, Ft. Thomas, Ky.; Joe Liebman (Adrienne), Frankfort; David Liebman (Sammie), Ludlow, Ky.; Ben Liebman, Cincinnati; Drew Tomlinson, Frankfort; and Kelsey Tomlinson, New Orleans; as well as two great-grandsons, William Heiert and Arthur Liebman. Services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 2nd at First Christian Church, Ann Street, Frankfort with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Meredith Siler and Rev. Dr. Bill Kincaid will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Rogers Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Jennie Heiert, Joe Liebman, David Liebman, Ben Liebman, Drew Tomlinson, Kelsey Tomlinson, William Heiert and David Crume. Arthur Liebman will serve as honorary pallbearer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations by sent to: The Backpack Snack Program of Frankfort/Franklin County, c/o Barbara Mathis, Bridgeport Elementary School, 10 Doctors Drive, Frankfort, KY 40601.
