Obituary
Obituary of Roberta Shannon
Please share a memory of Roberta to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Roberta Bush Shannon, age 88, passed away suddenly Saturday, November 16, 2013. She was born October 29, 1925, to the late James and Cora Rice Bush in Henry County, Kentucky, and she had lived in Frankfort for the past 68 years.
After graduating from Pleasureville High School, Roberta began working for the State Personnel Department. She also worked at the Kentucky Highway Department and Inspector General's Office before retiring.
She was a charter member and the church historian for Frankfort's Immanuel Baptist Church. She was a strong woman of faith and was devoted to her church, her family, and her friends. After growing up with next to nothing during the Depression, Roberta enjoyed caring for and decorating her home. Ultimately, though, material things were not important to her - people were. Previously, she volunteered through the Red Cross at the Frankfort Regional Hospital, and she worked at the church's Infant Resource Center until the week before her death.
Roberta had more energy and enthusiasm for life than most people half her age. She loved to read, sew, play bridge and cook; and she made a mean banana pudding. Mainly, she loved to spend time with and take care of her family and friends, and she particularly treasured the moments she shared with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is remembered and already deeply missed by two daughters, Patty (Roger) Crittenden and Becky (Scott) Tippett; three grandchildren, Ben (Amy) Crittenden, Laura Crittenden, and Andrew Tippett; and two great-grandchildren, Beatrice and Elliott Crittenden. Although her family was small, she leaves behind a large "family" of many friends who were very dear to her.
Visitation for Roberta will be from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 21 at the Immanuel Baptist Church on Collins Lane. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 22, also at Immanuel Baptist Church, with burial to follow at the Frankfort Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled through Rogers Funeral Home. Donations in her memory may be made to the Infant Resource Center at Immanuel Baptist Church.
