William "Pete" Lea, 98, husband of 74 years of Dorothy Dunstall Lea, passed away Monday, July 28, 2014 at his home. Born in Frankfort on June 24, 1916, he was the son of the late W.B. and Anna Jordan Lea. A graduate of Frankfort High School, Mr. Lea was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater. He worked for the United States Postal Service, served as a clerk for the Ky. State Senate, was a former Commander of the American Legion Post in Frankfort, and served as choir director for several churches, including the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, of which he was a member. Mr. Lea's passion was music. He sang in the Rebels Quartet, was the founder of the Frankfort Chapter of the SPEBSQA (barbershoppers) and assisted in the founding of the Barbershoppers in Versailles. Along with his wife, Mr. Lea is also survived by a daughter, Jacqueline Lea; a sister, Anna Francis Horn; a daughter-in-law, Vicki Lea; two grandchildren, Amanda Yeary (Chris) and Jessica Van Sickel (Nate); and two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Clay Yeary. He was preceded in death by a son, James Murray Lea. Graveside services will be held in the Frankfort Cemetery at 10:00 am Thursday. Visitation will be at Rogers Funeral Home from 4:00 to 6:00 pm Wednesday. Honorary bearers will be Nate Van Sickel, Chris Yeary, Bill Johnson, Harry Borders, Art Van Houten, Jim Rall, and Matthew Huddleston. Contributions in Mr. Lea's memory are suggested to the Episcopal Church of the Ascension or to Hospice of the Bluegrass.
