Obituary of Virginia Robinson

Virginia R Robinson, otherwise known as “Mizz Virginia” or “the little Yankee lady”, passed away at her home in South Frankfort on Saturday, February 14 at the age of 97. Born in the Commonwealth of Virginia, she lived most of her life in New Jersey. Virginia was the daughter of Helen and Eldon Raison and was the oldest of 14 children. She married George R. Robinson and she and her husband worked as a team to better the community of Clark, New Jersey. Highlights include serving as city treasurer for a number of years, establishing the Clark Community Concert Series, the and The Clark Scholarship Fund. She helped found the Friends of the Library which resulted in the establishment of the local public library, of which Virginia served on the original Board of Trustees. Both Virginia and George were instrumental in the restoration of Dr. William Robinson’s 1600’s plantation resulting in its’ designation as a museum. Virginia moved to Frankfort in her early eighties to be close to her daughter Jill after the passing of her husband. Her community focus continued in Frankfort, where she volunteered at Liberty Hall, Paul Sawyier Public Library and the Kentucky Bookfair. She enjoyed participating in the art classes at the Senior Center, gardening, reading, rug hooking, current affairs and politics. She leaves behind a son, David E. Robinson (Sharon) of Burr Ridge, IL and a daughter, Jill E. Robinson of Frankfort; three grandchildren, Bre Schneider (Janszen) LaGrange IL, Erin Wurtzbacker (Shawn) Brookfield WI and Nicholas Robinson (Australia); and five great grandchildren, Merritt, Maura and Ben Schneider and Ella and Cole Wurtzbacker. A celebration of her life will take place in the spring. In lieu of flowers, friend’s of Virginia Robinson are encouraged to make contributions to one of the following charities: Franklin County Women’s Shelter; Liberty Hall; or Hospice of the Bluegrass.
