Please share a memory of Jacqueline to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jacqueline Green Taylor (Jackie), 81, passed away in the Frankfort Regional Medical Center, Frankfort, KY on Sunday, February 22, 2015. A long-time resident of Frankfort, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Odessa Green and the wife of the late Rev. Robert Taylor. Jackie was born in Lynchburg, VA where she received her early childhood education before the family moved to West Virginia and subsequently to Frankfort where she completed high school at Mayo-Underwood High School. She enrolled in Kentucky State College where she met her future husband. After Robert’s tour of duty in the United States Army, Jackie moved with her husband to Jenkins, KY where he had accepted a position in the public schools. They became the proud parents of their first baby girl before returning to Frankfort where the second baby girl was born. Frankfort-Louisville then became home while Robert worked in the Jefferson County Public School System and Jackie began working in the KSU dorms under her mother, Odessa Green, the Dean of Students. Jackie became “the mother-away-from-home” when she became a hostess in the Student Cafeteria where many life-long relationships were made. Jackie accepted Christ at an early age and, following in her mother’s footsteps, she chose First Baptist Church on Clinton Street as her home church. She remained a member until her death, although she frequently attended other churches in the area and traveled with her husband to Greenup, KY when he became pastor of the Church there. Jackie followed in her mother’s footsteps in other ways also, and became widely known as one of the best cooks in the city. Her family, neighbors and friends in the city looked forward to Jackie’s invitation to enjoy many of her “specialties”. Mrs. Taylor was made a Kentucky Colonel on her 80th birthday. Jackie will be greatly missed by all who came to know her. Among the immediate family left to mourn are two daughters, Sharene Mattison of Louisville and Kimberly Taylor of Frankfort; a grandson, Tyler Mattison and step-grandson, Gordon Mattison; a great grandson, Tyler, Jr.; a stepdaughter, Jackie Yates (Smokey) of TN; a brother, Frederick Green of Grosse Pointe, MI, his daughter, Dr. Lisa Green Gordon of Maryland, his stepson, Wellington Burrell; other nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Arrangements are entrusted to Rogers Funeral Home, West Second Street, Frankfort. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm. Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the First Baptist Church, Clinton Street, with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Gardens, Versailles Road. Repast at the Church following interment.
