Obituary of Gardner Decoursey (G.D.) Beach

BEACH, Gardner, D. 92, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at The Episcopal Church Home in Louisville. Gardner, known as G. D., was the son of the late Charles Beach, Sr. and Nancy Hieronymus Beach and was born in Beattyville. G. D. was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and the LSU School of Banking. He completed Officer Training at Columbia and served on the USS Lexington and the USS Uvalde between 1943 and 1945 and his Kentucky banking career spanned 50 years.
G.D. is survived by his loving wife, Bettie Ree Shrewsbury, who was born in Leitchfield, Ky. They were married in 1952, raised their five children first in Beattyville, moving to Frankfort in 1964 when G.D. was appointed Banking Commissioner. After his term, he moved to the Peoples Bank and Trust Company of Owenton.
Their surviving daughters and spouses are Nancy (Headley) Bell of Lexington, Julia Beach of Georgetown, and Mary Beach (Jim Goodman) of Vancouver. Surviving sons and spouse are James (Colleen) Beach of Louisville, and Clifton Beach of Seattle.
He is further survived by ten grandchildren: Price H. (Beth) Bell, Jr., Alice Bell (Peter) Little, Gardner B. Bell, Samuel T. Beach, Mary (Mollie) M. Beach, Hannah S. Beach, Carter N.Beach, Gardner DeCoursey Beach, II, Charles C. Beach, and Augustus Beach Goodman, and one great-grandchild, George Headley Bell.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 13th from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Church of the Ascension, Frankfort. Funeral service will follow immediately thereafter. Private burial will take place after the service. Arrangements by Rogers Funeral Home.
