Obituary of Lewis Edward Hill

Lewis Edward (Ed) Hill, husband of Edwina Finneran Hill, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2015 in Frankfort, KY. Born February 17, 1923 in Midway, Woodford County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Frank Perry and Ruby Wash Hill.
Ed was a member of the Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church for 80 years, serving as Treasurer for 30 of them. He loved hunting, fishing, his bird dogs, watching cartoons with his grandchildren and UK basketball. Ed worked at National Distillery for 44 years and was also a volunteer at the Access Soup Kitchen in Frankfort.
A veteran of World War II, Ed served in the Pacific Theatre campaign and was wounded at the Battle of Manila. He received both the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service.
Ed is survived by his wife, Edwina, children Pat (Bo) Thomas of Versailles, KY; Tom (Gloria) Hill of Staffordsville, KY; and Janet (Tony) Jewell of Frankfort, KY; six grandchildren: David Christopher Thomas, Valerie Hill Edgeworth (Jeremy), Matthew Edward Thomas, Kyle Anthony Jewell (Amanda), Kurt Michael Jewell, and Thomas Alexander Hill; three great-grandchildren: Levi Anthony Jewell, David Lewis Edgeworth, and Adalyn Hart Jewell; and two sisters, Mary Rice of San Diego, California and Carolyn Moore of Georgetown, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Frank and Aubrey Hill; and sisters, Gertrude Chappell and Ruby Webster.
Services will be held at the Forks of Elkhorn Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Monday. Visitation will be at Rogers Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday.
Ed’s grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Access Soup Kitchen or the Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church.
