Obituary of Joseph "Joe" Charles Yagel, Jr.

Joseph "Joe" Charles Yagel, Jr., 87, husband of Sallie Edelen Yagel, passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2015 surrounded at home by his family.
Born in Franklin County on January 16, 1928, Mr. Yagel was a graduate of Good Shepherd School and served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. A loving husband of 65 years and father, he owned J.C. Yagel Hardware and was a life-long member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Mr. Yagel was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, and served on boards with Farmers Bank, Kings Daughters Hospital, Salvation Army, and YMCA.
Along with his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Julia Yagel Steinhardt and Mary Yagel Tanner; two sons, Joseph Charles Yagel III and David Edelen Yagel; two sisters, Carolyn Yagel Crutcher and Emily Ann Smith; a step-sister, Kay Clark Hosbach; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Charles Yagel, Sr. and Mary Julia Sullivan Yagel; a son, George Rodman Yagel; and a grandson, Edward Eugene Steinhardt.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered in the Good Shepherd Catholic Church at 12:00 p.m. Saturday with burial following in the Frankfort Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church after 10:00 a.m. Saturday.
Pallbearers will be George Steinhardt IV, Charles Steinhardt, Michael Tanner, Joseph Tanner, Jonathan Yagel, and Joseph Yagel.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Darrell Clark, Richard Craycraft, and Carlos Pugh for their loving care and support.
Contributions in Mr. Yagel's memory may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Hospice of the Bluegrass, or the Van Andel Institute for Parkinson's Disease Research.
