Obituary of Jean A. Dews

Jean A. Dews went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 19, 2015, two days shy of her 77th birthday. She was born in Calhutta, Georgia on December 21, 1938, the daughter of the late Joseph L. and Iva Arnett. A graduate of Perry County High School in Marion, Alabama; Jean spent many years working for Sears and later retired after more than 15 years with the Ky. State Police Post 12. She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. A loving wife, mother, and sister, Jean was always doing something for her family. She enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening, camping and travelling; but her favorite hobby was cheering on the U.K. Wildcats. Jean is survived by her daughter, Theresa Dews (Tammy Bowman); her son, William Troy Dews; a sister, Mary Jo (Voin) Barker; a granddaughter, Christina Dews; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Dews; and her sister, Linda Arnett. Services for Jean will be held at Rogers Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday with visitation preceding at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Father Charles Howell will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be Jim Roble, Earl Weber, Lee Weber, Steve Weber, Voin Barker II, Marion Dews, Darren Dews, and Dennis Charles. Honorary bearers will be Jean’s great-grandsons, Travis Parker and Taeshawn Graves; and Bob Hicks, who so graciously visited her for the past several years. Contributions in Jean’s memory are suggested to the Franklin County Humane Society or the American Diabetes Association.
