Obituary of Roberta Peak Padgett

Roberta Lee (Peak) Padgett, 87, wife of John Clarence Padgett, passed away in the afternoon hours of Friday, February 26, 2016 in the care of Hospice of the Bluegrass at the UK Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
Born in Cairo, Illinois on June 12, 1928 she was the daughter of Herman Lee Peak and Wilma Violet Mize. Mrs. Padgett (Berta) was born into a family associated with the railroads. She spent her early years in a number of small towns in southern Illinois and western Kentucky as the family moved following the career of her father who was a switchman with the Illinois Central Railroad.
She graduated from Fulton High School in Fulton, Kentucky in 1946 and went on to pursue a degree in Home Economics at then Murray State College. She left school one class short of a degree in 1949 to marry John of nearby Hardin, Kentucky. They moved to Frankfort where John coached basketball at Frankfort High School and she gave birth to her first son, David Lee.
They returned to western Kentucky in 1952 moving to Lone Oak outside Paducah. Here she gave birth to her remaining two sons, John Michael and Robert Brent. They moved back to Frankfort in 1963 eventually settling in their long-time home in Juniper Hills Subdivision.
Mrs. Padgett was active in many organizations throughout her life including the Boy Scouts of America, Franklin County High School Quarterback Club, Genealogical Society of Kentucky, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Friends Circle of her church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, and her aunt Opal Webb. She is survived by her sister-in-law Mildred Browning of Frankfort, her three sons, five grandchildren (Brian Padgett of Columbus, Ohio; Jennifer Ferrie of Chatham, New Jersey; Justin Padgett of Denton, Texas; Laura Dantin of Savannah, Georgia; and Alyssa Padgett of Newport, Kentucky), and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 pm Monday, February 29, 2016 at Rogers Funeral Home in Frankfort. Funeral services will be 10 am Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Rogers. Burial will follow at the Frankfort Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
