Gylispie “Gip” Duncan, 86, passed away Tuesday, March 8. Born Sept. 15, 1929 in Frankfort, Ky., he was the son of the late Joe Blackburn Duncan and Eddie Chism Duncan. A 1948 graduate of Bald Knob High School, he served as president and salutatorian for his 21-member senior class and started on the Eagles basketball team. After graduating cum laude from Georgetown College with a B.A. in business, he served in the U.S. Army at Fort Rucker, Ala., and Fort Benning, Ga., from 1953 to 1955. In 1958, he and his late wife, Dorothy, moved from Frankfort to Louisville, where he worked as an accountant in the disbursements department at General Electric’s Appliance Park until his retirement in 1989. He was a devoted fan of the University of Kentucky men’s basketball team and attended the Wildcats’ 2012 NCAA championship at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. He is survived by daughter, Pamela, 60, sons, Steven, 57, and Jeffrey, 51, son-in-law Scott, daughter-in-law Debbie and five grandchildren: Adam, Natalie, Joe, Becca and Sarah. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. Friday with visitation preceding at 12:00 p.m.
