Obituary of Barbara Mills Ward

Barbara Mills Ward, 85, passed away on Dec. 12, 2017. She was born on Nov. 26, 1932, to the late Emmett Mills and Annette Mitchell Mills.

She graduated from Elkhorn High School in 1950, was a member of Buck Run Baptist Church, and volunteered at Christian Care Community Best Friends Adult Day Center.

She was preceded in death by her former husband Douglas Simpson, Sr., and was the widow of Roy Becknell and William Ward. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Emmett Mitchell Mills.

She is survived by her children, Douglas Simpson, Jr. (Connie), David Simpson (Gaye), Jeff Simpson (Philda), and Rebecca Becknell Cunningham (Jason); her grandchildren Christopher Simpson (Michelle), Laurie Dorough (Jed), Katie Beard (Derek), Tandy Hubbard (Billy), Jeremy Simpson (Alison), Leslie Wonderlich (Grant), Megan Eggemeier (Patrick), Lucy Cunningham and Erin Cunningham; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pall bearers will be Jeremy Simpson, Jed Dorough, Derek Beard, Billy Hubbard, Grant Wonderlich, and Patrick Eggemeier.

The funeral service will be Saturday, Dec. 16, at 1 p.m. at Rogers Funeral Home, officiated by Dr. Hershael York and Rev. Todd Lester. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the service. Burial will be at the Frankfort Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Bluegrass Care Navigators (Hospice).
