Obituary of Walter O. Rogers, Sr.
Walter O'Sullivan Rogers, Sr., 98, passed away on Sunday, December 9th, 2018. He was born on June 30, 1920 to his mother, Jessie Mae O'Sullivan Rogers Oliver, and father, Walter Franklin Rogers, in Frankfort, KY. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helen Games Rogers; his stepson, Robert Curtis Gibbs; his younger brother, Joseph E. Rogers (Alma, also deceased) and his sister, Jean Carmichael (John, also deceased).
Mr. Rogers is survived by his son Walter O'Sullivan Rogers, Jr., daughter Susan R. Miller (Gene), grandson Matthew Miller, granddaughter Kylie Miller, great-granddaughter Sullivan Grace Miller, and a very special nephew, Joseph Rogers. He also leaves behind many other dear nephews and nieces, great-nephews and nieces, and great-great nieces.
Mr. Rogers retired from the Bluegrass Army Depot in Richmond and from the Commonwealth of KY Revenue Department. He was an avid hunter and fisher and outdoorsman. He was a member of the American Legion Lodge from 1946, serving as Commander of Post #12 in Richmond, KY and was a life member of Frankfort Post #7, holding several offices. He also belonged to the VFW and 40&8 and was very active in the leadership of Ky Boy's State. He was a member of the B.P.O Elks beginning in 1964, and served as Grand Exalted Ruler of the Richmond Lodge and, later, was a member of the Frankfort Elks Lodge #530. He was active in the Kentucky Elks Association and served as State President in 1988-89.
Graveside services will be held in the Frankfort Cemetery at 2:00 pm Friday. Visitation will be at Rogers Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday.
