I was 4 years older than Jody. My sister was a classmate. Jody also was a neighbor. I loved taking pictures of neighborhood kids.
I especially enjoyed Annette's 7th birthday party. Jody is next to Chip, who is next to Annette.
Several of those children are gone now: Annette, Cindy Perkins, Bob Stewart, Miriam Marcus, and now Jody. Another in the pictures is expected to leave us soon. Makes me sad to see all these beautiful little children only in the fleeting happy moments of childhood. But I enjoy the pictures and memories.
I remember Jody as a pretty, vibrant little girl with a cute and outgoing personality. Her remarks often made people smile or laugh.
I never dreamed Jody would someday endure the painful adulthood she experienced. It is somewhat of a blessing that she is now no longer suffering and isolated. She can finally rest in peace.
I appreciate that her siblings speak of Jody's good points in her earlier life--we all have some--as well as acknowledging her tremendous challenges. I will think of them both and the mixed feelings they may have as they come to terms with the end of her life. There is always grief in saying good-bye to what once was. You are not alone.
I wanted to share these pictures on this site, which is how I'll remember Jody. I will also always remember her father's funny ad he put in the 1950's Tanglewood Times (kids newspaper we published) when the girls were about 6 and 4, saying:
Please
do not feed
Jody or Betsy.

Jody and I were classmates from first grade at Capital Day School to our senior year in high school at Frankfort High School. We both had February birthdays. She was bright, funny, sensitive, and a loyal friend.
As part of the Gershman family who owned the iconic men’s and lady’s clothing store in Frankfort, she had a keen sense for fashion and taste in clothing. She never suffered fools and could exchange a banter with the best!
She will be missed by many and my hope she finds peace and happiness in her journey.
I send prayers and condolences to Betsy and Mark.
Sincerely,
Philip Perry

Jody was a DEAR friend to me even though we held opposing views on a wide variety of issues. We could (and did) discuss many subjects for lengthy periods of time. We lost contact with each other during a series of physical relocations and I have not known how to contact her. I thought she would probably find me. She was troubled emotionally as well as mentally. I regret I could not be a better friend to her.

Jody was a complex lady. On her good days, you could learn Revolutionary War facts and the perfect cocktail recipe, the history of the Kentucky River and the bawdiest, best, biggest belly-laugh jokes you ever heard. She was quick to bestow on you a clever nickname, eager to help as she was able wherever she could, and added vibrant, unmatchable color to every room she was in. To know her and experience her incredible mind was nothing short of exceptional, and I am glad so many had the chance to learn from and love her.

In the wake of Jody's passing, I recall a person that showed kindness, warmth and cordiality, enlightening our days with profound intellect. Our encounter at the Y was made up of enriching, interesting conversations cherished to this day. As we mourn Jody's loss, may we also celebrate this life, honoring her legacy in our lasting remembrances.

My sincerest condolences to Jody's family. I realize Jody had her struggles, but I also have good memories of her sense of humor and working with her on events at the old convention center.
May Jody find peace.
