Obituary of Carol Carpenter

Please share a memory of Carol to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carol Elaine Wainscott Carpenter, born July 20, 1945, peacefully passed away in the early morning hours of August 2, 2024 with her children by her side. Carol graduated from Franklin County High School and Transylvania University, and received an MA from Georgetown College. She was an English teacher for 24 years, first at FCHS where she served as Department Chair and later at Woodbridge Senior High School in Virginia where she was named Teacher of the Year. She then moved into the counseling office, serving students for another 17 years. She loved her family, traveling, reading, and UK basketball, though not always in that order. She will be remembered for her great sense of humor and love of people. We expect she and Danny are dancing in heaven. In her own words, “I’ll leave the funny stories about me to my kids, their spouses, and my grandkids. My friends from high school will remember all the rides in the “green grunt” (my car). Lifelong friends will remember our “margarita moments”, and wonderful times at the lake and the beach.” Carol is survived by her daughters Shannon Carpenter (Jim Anderst) of Kansas City, MO, and Kelli Dominick (Mike) of Cincinnati, OH; son Brian Carpenter of Charleston, SC; grandchildren Daniel and David Anderst and Maddy and Benji Dominick; and step-brother Donald Tomes. She was preceded in death by her husband Daniel “Danny” Lee Carpenter; brother Daryl Wainscott (Suzanne); mother Hazel Tomes; father Winfred “Crickett” Wainscott; and step-father Jasper “Red” Tomes. A Celebration of Life will be held at Rogers Funeral Home in Frankfort, KY on Wednesday, August 7. Visitation will begin at 11:30 am with service to follow at 1:00 pm. Final interment will take place in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Billy Pennington, Bobby Pennington, Geoffrey Roberts, Phillip Roberts, and Apollo Williamson. Honorary bearers will be Xander Williamson, Mike Peters, Bradley Pennington, Mike Peters, Sr., Christian Carpenter, Reuben Carpenter, Bill Pennington, Paul "Red" Roberts, Wayne Roberts, Steven Roberts, and Bill Smyth. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Carol’s memory be made to Kelli Dominick, 10634 Zephyr Lane, Cincinnati, OH 45242, to benefit the Carol Carpenter Scholarship Fund, soon to be established.
