Dr. Hernandez was one of the best. He was always a very pleasant person to be around and concerned about how you were doing. I worked in Public Health for 24 years and I wish he could have always been our commissioner. I am very sorry for this great loss to Public Health.

Just wanted to say how sorry I was to hear of the passing of such a great man. I knew of him from the time I started state government, but got to know him when he came to DDS as a medical consultant. He was such a pleasure to work with and to get to know on a personal basis. We shared stories of our families and nothing meant more to him than his family and he meant so much to our DDS family too!!! Thank you for your friendship Dr. Hernandez. My thoughts and prayers are with you all...

He was the best father in the world. There was never a time he didn't know what to say or do to help. His perspective on life was the perfect balance blend of humor, compassion and humility. I'll never forget him saying the key to life was moderation. He certainly was living proof of it. I hope he knew just how proud I was of him.

Dr. Hernandez was a wonderful man and leader. Working with him in the days of Dept of Public Health when he was Commissioner was actually a pleasure. He made the days fun to bear. Always a kind word and concern for you as a person not just an employee. Always a smile. He will be greatly missed here, and a blessing when we see him again when we all get to Heaven. See you on at the River Dr. H. I give thanks that you were a part of my life. Prayers to the family for comfort until you are joined together again.

Dear Hernandez Family -
My deepest condolences for the loss of your husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Carlos was a institution of my childhood. There isn't a memory I have of him that isn't humorous. I loved the way he called the chihuahua "Macho!" I had never met anyone that struck me as so inherently funny.
Requiem in pachem,

Dr. Hernandez was a great doctor to the DDS in Frankfort. He was very nice as well. He was not one to go with what everyone else was doing. Instead, he would question the decision and make the correct one without hesitation. I found that to be great! May you rest in peace Dr. H.

I love Dr. Hernandez. He was warm and kind and always made me laugh. Just recently I was reminded of a conversation we had years ago. He was Commissioner of Health Services and the administration was about to change. I asked him did he think he'd survive the administration change and he responded "Well Lisa, some people like me and some people are pissed up! What de hell...it's all water under the river now." What a blessing it is to have known him. God Bless.

I loved him very much. He was suffering very much the last time I visited him, and I knew that I wouldn't see him again. While I was at Boy Scout camp, I was told by my mother (over the phone) that he was waiting to die and wanted me to finish my merit badges. He died on July 13th, the day after he figured out I had.
