When my son was 7, in the 1980s, he contracted a severe eye infection and was admitted to the new Kings Daughters for a regimen of antibiotics.
Some young nurses tried to get an IV into his arm but were having trouble finding his vein and after two unsuccessful sticks, and him screaming bloody murder, these nurses were a nervous wreck and said, "better go get Miss Susie".
Minutes later she came in and quickly got him calmed down and got the IV in on the first stick. Everyone was in awe of "Miss Susie" and she was loved by all.
She worked at the old Kings Daughters on Steele St with my maternal grandmother, Naomi Harrod and spoke of her fondly.
Miss Susie's brother, Tom, was my first boss at KyDOT in 1973 and her brother, John, was a friend of Dads. The Muccis, good people.
